Reunited with Potatoes Once Again!!!

By the way, this past Sunday (Easter) was my last day of fasting potatoes for Lent! So when I could finally eat potatoes, I went to lunch with a couple of friends with the full intention of ordering the scrumptious spud. I ordered "Baked Chicken on Rice with Portuguese Sauce", a dish that always comes with POTATOES. But no... the restaurant that I went to was a MASSIVE FAIL and my meal turned out to be a large mound of rice with a sad shriveled excuse of a chicken cutlet topped with a thick barf-coloured sauce that smelled just like it looked (hungry yet?) Ironically I had gone to another restaurant with my parents the night before, and my mom had ordered the exact same thing - and it had come with potatoes galore!

After that anti-climatic experience, I overcompensated today by going to McDonald's on two separate occasions - once to get a junior chicken burger, and later on to get a LARGE FRIES that I ate all by myself in all of its greasy, glorious, golden goodness. Mr. Potato joined in on my little feast too...

Oh, and side note: After eating those fries, I ate six tacos. Yes... today was a good day indeed.

Hot Millions

In my last post, I mentioned drawing something with loads of CHALK. The project that I worked on last week was helping my friend design the menu boards for her family's pizza place, Hot Millions Café, in Surrey, B.C. (see their location and reviews here at Urban Spoon).

For the menu boards, we used coloured chalk pastels and worked for around 5 hours. All the chalkboards were already installed near the ceiling, so we had to get used to drawing upright while standing on a small table (there were a few moments where I lost my balance and almost fell off but miraculously I was still unscathed at the end of the night). It was super fun and of course the best part was eating the amazingly delicious pizza!!!

Here are some pictures...

I loved the bright decor of the place - it felt so warm and cozy.

Look at the size of that BEAST (I'm referring to the pizza above). Honestly, $8.99 is an insanely low price for the quality and size of pizza that you can get at Hot Millions.

Below are some pictures of all the menu boards that we worked on:

Aside from pizza, they also have pasta, wings, and stir-fry (I was tempted to try everything)...

And of course, what is a Kwok's Kreations post without something completely random? Here is Greasy Grewal and I, taking a break from working to strike a pose. Good times =)

Project Preview

This past week I was asked to help with an "art project" by my good friend, Greasy Grewal (really, she doesn't mind that I call her that... or does she? ...) haha... too late! The nickname lives on! Anyway, I shall post pictures soon but here is a preview of what the project consisted of...

CHALK, CHALK, and more CHALK...

I quite liked the colourful residue that was left behind at the end. The chalk dust was so bright and appealing that it almost looked EDIBLE. But no, in case you were wondering... I didn't go that far.

miscellaneous objects

I have a tendency to leave a whole pile of random objects on my bed (in my defense, I put them there so I know exactly where to find them). Below are just some of the things you might find lying around...

A few days ago, I came into my room and found...

THIS.

I must say, to whoever the culprit was, it was creepy... but creative.

(just the way I like it!)

Introducing... Miss Cupcake!

Recently, I've had more time to devote to art, so I'm excited to take a break from school for awhile and just... create! For the past few days, I've been working on a few mini art projects here and there. I shall try to be diligent and post my little monsters soon.

Anyway, it's been awhile since the last Foodie Bag creation was released (the Diner Dash bag), but Mr. Moustache-Burger was feeling lonely and he needed a female counterpart. So here she is in all her feminine glory...

Mr. Burger seems very happy...

... a little TOO happy...

Going along with the burger + cupcake theme, this post reminded me of a painting I made last year.

These creations were made for the REAL MISS CUPCAKE - the talented baker who made THIS monstrosity below... (I'm so proud of her dessert-making skills ... mainly because I get to taste-test! haha just kidding... but not really.) Isn't it so deliciously amazing?

...and finally, since I just could not resist while we're on a roll with all the cupcake shenanigans, I cannot help but feel the urge to make this creepster pose every time I see cupcakes... and as evidence shows, this has been attempted on various occasions. (left: last year on my birthday, right: at a wedding).

For more cupcake eye-candy, click here. For the rest of you who have had enough of this sugar overload, enjoy the rest of your day, my sweeties (*gag*).

I will be posting more randomness in awhile!

HOW TO: POLYESTER SURGERY

Sometimes I shop in the guys section (hey, growing up, my mom bought my clothes from the boys department, so why stop now?) A few months ago, I picked up a MAN SHIRT from Urban Outfitters for $5. It was a size LARGE ... but nothing a little shirt reconstruction can't fix. Now I'm not a sewing pro, by any means, and I've never followed an actual sewing pattern in my life... but anyway, I try. So this is my first little HOW TO:

You need:
1) an old man's shirt     2) cloth-cutting scissors       3) a sewing machine

And here is my attempt at explaining my shirt reconstruction process:

Remember to sew everything while the T-shirt is inside-out!

I forgot to take a "BEFORE" picture of me wearing the man shirt, but the finished product is a much more fitted shirt with slightly smaller sleeves and a wide scoop neck.

Let me know if you decide to try it!!! =)
(oh, and unlike me, you might want to iron the shirt before you wear it) haha!

I see things.

I admit. I see things. Awhile back I drew weird random characters inspired by a crazy-lookin' piece of ginger (refresh your memory here). This time, I was washing my paint palette and watching the dried acrylic patches chip away when an image suddenly flashed into my head.

Can you see it?

Look closer...

and closer...

Okay call me crazy but does the chipping paint not look like Jesus to you? (Oh and I threw a fried egg in the mix for additional randomness). Oh and by Jesus I mean the "stereotypical image of Jesus" because no one really knows what Jesus looks like. For the full effect you have to see the Tumblr-transformation version here. And now I feel like one of those people who find a far-fetched image of Jesus on a piece of toast and sell it on eBay for a couple hundred $$$.

Anyway, moral of the story: God is everywhere people, even in paint palettes!

my low-budget window display

This is my artsy attempt at a low-budget window display. haha. (Oh and say hello to my beautiful bass guitar!)

On a side note: tax-free shopping was so awesome - I was not used to the glorious concept of "the price on the tag is the exact price you pay" and I felt deliriously happy collecting pennies from all the purchases that ended in .99! Anyway, even though we actually didn't have time to go to too many "girly clothing stores", I found a lot of things that I had seen + liked but had never bought in Canada because they were too expensive. LADIES, you know that feeling when you find an item you've been looking for and there's only one, buried in a dingy corner, and it's on sale, AND it's your size? There were so many of those moments where I just pulled something off the rack and thought, "well, hello there..." (creepy much?)

I think my favourite purchase had to be that brown bag I found at a random consignment store (I LOVE THRIFT STORES!!!) According to my friend, if you look closely the bag looks like a CREEPY FACE. Can you see it? That just made me love it more. HAHAHA.

Anyway, for you ladies who are interested, I posted more pictures HERE since I didn't want to bombard my guy viewers with too much shopping talk! (haha... too late...)

Piggies in Portland

Hiii everyone! I'm back from Portland and I wish I were still there. Since I am in vacation withdrawal phase, here are some pictures from my trip for your viewing pleasure...

On our vacation, we feasted like pigs.

Here we have Pok Pok's famous Fish-Sauce Chicken Wings + Catfish dish!
(if you haven't been to Pok Pok, you should go!)

We also went shopping... (as shown by my new necklace here)...

...and we visited the Tillamook Cheese Factory... which also conveniently sold ice-cream.

I love the architecture and style of the old buildings in downtown Portland...

...and I also love the ginormous restroom indicators at the outlet mall
that I just had to androgynously pose with.

Overall, the weather was quite sunny while we were there,
and cherry blossoms were blooming everywhere!

I hope all the coming weekends are this fabulous.

In the end, the moments I enjoyed most were the simple ones - like singing along with the radio
during the long car rides or taking an after-dinner stroll in a quaint little neighborhood
where time seemed to linger, just for awhile.

Mindless Mumblings and Random Ramblings

So I'm sitting at school with a million thoughts zipping through my mind.

Thought #1: I have a Tim Hortons XL steeped tea beside me. What are the chances that THIS IS THE ONE? God knows how many times I've been disappointed by the Please Try Again.

Thought #2: I have a 10 page Study Guide aka. THE MASTERPIECE beside me. It holds all the answers to life. Or at least to this test. What are the chances that I will actually have the motivation to read it in the next few hours?

Thought #3: I can't believe I actually slept with said Study Guide underneath my pillow last night, hoping that somehow the info would evaporate upwards and into my brain. Come on... it works for naive elementary school children!! ... (some things never change)...

Thought #4: Tomorrow I have my last University class ever with the prof that sleeps in her own guest speakers' presentations (multiple times). Right after class I will be going home to take a nap and then driving down to Portland for a weekend getaway!!! I'VE NEVER BEEN THERE!! I'M SO EXCITED! (no one cares! have pity and pretend you do!)

Thought #5: Actually I have yet to tell my parents about the trip... I should do that today. Actually, I have yet to tell them that I have a blog... Also, I have yet to add them on Facebook. (Never). Ignore Friend Request Indefinitely.

Thought #6: The first thing I'm going to do when I get back from my mini vacation is to PAINT A PICTURE. I have been dying to paint something and have been restless for WEEKS to do so. If I don't paint soon, my brain is going to explode onto the canvas (k... violent imagery there.... that would be a gory self-portrait. Ha!)...

Thought #7: The guy who runs the study place I'm in looks EXACTLY like Bilbo Baggins. All he needs is the Shire Theme Song playing discretely in the background while he's working in his little office. I want to follow him home and see if he lives in a Hobbit hole (but the words "stalker" and "restraining order" hinder me from doing so). If you don't get my Lord of the Rings reference, you are a FOOL OF A TOOK and should be eaten by an Orc.

Excellent... my friends have come to join me in the dungeon of endless procrastination... I should stop mindlessly blogging. Time for some hearty studying time!

Thanks for listening to my VERBAL VOMIT! Bye!

Epilogue: (Update on Thought #1:) I got another Please Try Again.

SUPER PIGGY!!!

2 more days of school.... one huge final tomorrow and one more presentation to go.... and then I'm officially done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I'll look like this lardy piggy here, flying with newfound freedom!!! (and I say lardy, because this semester I think I've consumed more Tim Hortons coffees and donuts than the rest of my lifetime combined!) Seriously... it's the only thing that's been keeping me alive. =P

LENT update:

Random update on my potato fast: today I accidentally ate POTATO CHIPS!!! I swear it was an accident! haha. Here's my alibi... I was super hungry so I bought TWO BAGS of chips from the vending machine. The first bag was sun chips (not potato) but the second bag was Miss Vickies chips (definitely potato). I didn't even realize it until I had finished the very last chip. OOPS.

Clearly I am going through withdrawal.

diabetes overload

Today was sunny. It made me crave ice-cream.
